New Yorkers say crime is a top priority in governor’s race between Kathy Hochul and Lee Zeldin

NEW YORK — Because the November election for New York governor inches nearer, voters have so much on their minds. 

From crime, to schooling, high quality of life and the economic system, many we spoke with sounded off about what they consider must be the governor’s high precedence. 

“We want a powerful governor,” Manhattan resident Ava Schofield advised CBS2. “Simply strengthen what we have already got.”

Schofield lives in Manhattan together with her two younger daughters. She mentioned she has a laundry record of priorities the governor ought to tackle, however crime is on the high. 

“I feel crime has actually gotten out of hand, and I feel individuals are not assured anymore,” she mentioned. “Individuals cannot journey the subways with the identical stage of confidence.”

Whether or not present Gov. Kathy Hochul stays in workplace, or her opponent Congressman Lee Zeldin takes over, there’s a terrific deal to tackle.

“I wish to see, maybe, a governor that may be somewhat extra on the conservative aspect of the problems, with the criminals for example,” Manhattan resident Sander Shkreli mentioned. 

A latest Siena Analysis Institute ballot confirmed Hochul with a 14-point edge over Zeldin, with Hochul at 53% and Zeldin at 39%.
