The Situation: A person who attacked GOP gubernatorial candidate Rep. Lee Zeldin throughout a marketing campaign speech.

It’s incomprehensible that the miscreant who tried to stab gubernatorial candidate Rep. Lee Zeldin was again out on the road earlier than the ink on his arrest paperwork was dry (“Zeldin attacked at campaign event,” July 22).

The accountability for this lays squarely on the shoulders of the Albany Democrats and their bail-reform legal guidelines.

The bail-reform legal guidelines have to be repealed, not merely tweaked. To ensure that this to occur, the governor and the remainder of the Albany Democrats have to be voted out of workplace this November. If not, this mayhem will proceed.

Kenneth Fitzgerald

Hicksville

Solely in Hochul’s New York may somebody who narrowly missed stabbing Zeldin in his neck be inexplicably under-charged with tried assault, even after bodily grabbing the GOP gubernatorial candidate.

And solely in Hochul’s more and more harmful, dysfunctional New York would this man be again on the road in a few hours.

Jim Soviero

East Setauket

The photographs seem to indicate that the assailant had a knife-like, double-bladed weapon in his proper hand, as he was gripping and holding onto Zeldin and mentioned: “You’re achieved.”

But, on account of New York’s new “progressive” bail-reform legal guidelines, he was virtually instantly launched from custody by the decide.

On the very least, because the assailant apparently had some sought of psychological situation, he ought to have been held and despatched for a psychological analysis.

That is one other horrible instance of why legal justice has been sabotaged and our streets and cities are usually not protected.

Harold Fishman

Manhattan

The assault on Zeldin, which was fortunately thwarted, gave first-hand credence to all that he has been saying about criminal-justice reform. Hollywood couldn’t have staged this higher. This was, sarcastically, a booster rocket for the Zeldin marketing campaign.

The attacker, who dedicated against the law in opposition to a sitting US congressman, was launched from a neighborhood courtroom in his personal recognizance with no bail required.

The attacker ought to have been held for psychiatric analysis and likewise subjected to the red-flag regulation. If he owns weapons, they need to be seized. His case also needs to be transferred to a federal courtroom with the cost of tried homicide.

Phil Serpico, Queens

The accountability for the crime and catch-and-release drawback now we have right here in New York lies solely with Hochul.

She has the ability to eliminate these district attorneys who give free reign to violent criminals and allow them to run amuck.

These brazen criminals are going after elected officers with no penalties, and essentially the most weak persons are being victimized on account of Hochul.

J. Papavasilopoulos

Manhattan

The assault on Zeldin places a laser-focus on out-of-control crime in New York, and the actual fact the attacker was instantly launched is shameful, but predictable.

New York is actually the Wild West. If a sitting United States congressman isn’t protected, who’s? Simple reply: the legal.

Gov. Hochul and the Democratic-led Legislature are complicit. Understanding New York will re-elect them is what they rely on. Keep in mind, that is what the left needed, and it received it. It’s really disgusting.

Paul Schettino

Hopewell Junction

Yet one more assault on a conservative chief in America. This time, it was gubernatorial candidate Zeldin, who was assaulted as he spoke at a marketing campaign occasion in Rochester.

This follows an try to assassinate Supreme Courtroom Justice Brett Kavanaugh by yet one more irate leftist.

Zeldin predicted that his attacker could be freed shortly on account of New York’s no-bail regulation, which has ignited the huge improve in crime within the Empire State, and that’s precisely what occurred. No marvel crime in New York is uncontrolled.

Steve Heitner

Center Island
